Spring is here and our babies are here

Spring is here - outside looks absolutely beautiful. The sun is out, the flowers are blooming and our bird feeders are mobbed with wild birds. It sure is the time of beauty. Last year we had a pair of chickadees nest in our spring wreath next to the front door. We had to wait for them to finish 2 clutches of babies before we could remove the wreath well into the summer. After we removed it, they nested in the hanging basket in the front porch. So to avoid all that, we hung a nice nest box upfront for them. But old habits die hard, they already made a nest and had some eggs before we knew it on the new spring wreath, that Jodie paid a lot of money for. So that is the news from our chickadees. We also have 2 pairs of geese in the pond across the road, with 6 and 5 babies each to go with a pair of mallard ducks with 10 babies.

Talking of all the babies, we do have our first baby of the season from Sunshine and Bubba. We were expecting the baby last weekend, so maybe not all the eggs were good from them this clutch. We broke the news about the new baby on our latest tweet. That is right, we are not on twitter and you can also follow us on twitter - @cnyaviary. Ray and Rita are also sitting on 4 eggs, with babies due in another couple of weeks. We do have couple of eggs from the new Severe Macaw pair. We were a lot worried about this pair, but 'cross your fingers' - they are sitting tight for now. The amazons, after a clutch of clear eggs, are going back for the next clutch. The double clutch is first for them, so lets hope they get it right this time around. Penny (the alexandrines) seems to be getting ready to go to nest and so does the Military Macaws. So all in all, we are excited about this season. We are hoping for lots and lots of babies.

That is the news from here at the Aviary - we will try to update you all with news every week and twitter updates more often than that. Take care and enjoy the great weather.
