Miscellaneous News from the aviary

'Amigo' is getting ready to go home tomorrow. Dan came and picked up the cage yesterday and I am sure after eating all the turkey he is getting Amigo's cage all ready for tomorrow. Amigo has been a gem all last week, she is so sweet and loves to give kisses to all. She was not so sure about Dan when he came to pick up the cage yesterday, but the moment he removed his winter hat she was all over him. We got the DNA results showing the both the babies from the second clutch are girls. The means both Sydney and Amigo are girls. That is 4 for 4 girls from the first two clutches this year.
We did have a small accident and some bad news last week - one of the greencheeks (a nice cinnamon gcc) escaped from the cage through an opening in the nest box and she did not make it. So we have to now DNA the other and then think about getting a mate. We also have some good news, in the sense that our Sun Conures are on eggs and we are hoping that the new nest boxes (thanks Kurt!!!) are put to good use for a long time. The cold weather is here and we are hoping for a really mild winter...lol
