News from our Aviary

Pretty exciting news from out Aviary - at least for us. About 2 years ago (2009) we had two pairs of sun conures and we decided to keep babies from these for our future breeding program. So after a lot of thought and DNA testing and everything we put two babies together. They were almost same age, and they grew up together. And after 2 years, they have their first clutch of eggs. We are not hoping to have babies, as we are sure they are not sure what they are doing. The male might not be mature enough to have babies yet but still it is pretty exciting when the babies we hand raised have grown up and started laying eggs. Even though they are hand raised, we have left them alone for the last year and half - so they are a hand shy but by no means they are vicious and attacking. They are still our babies and will continue to be our babies even after they have babies of their own.
In some other news from the Aviary, we have B&G's sitting on eggs, which we hope are good and fertile this time. Then we have our Military's, also sitting on 3 eggs - for this pair we just let them sit and do not check until it is time to pull the eggs to the incubator. We also have a new baby African Grey Congo - hatched this morning. Yay!!!
