What we feed our birds
All our baby birds are weaned on to Zupreem Fruit-blend pellets. In addition to the pellets we try to mix up the diet from day to day to give our birds a good variety of foods. The following are a list of foods we feed:
- Mixed Vegetables (green beans, corn, carrots, peas, broccoli)
- Butternut squash (cooked and mashed)
- Beans (15 bean variety bag cooked and mixed with mashed sweet potatoes)
- Asparagus
- Cooked Rice (no salt, no butter) usually mixed with squash or sweet potato
- Cooked Pasta (no salt, no butter) elbow macaroni, spaghetti. (Comical to watch them eat spaghetti)
- Corn (corn is the favorite in the Aviary so we mix the boiled eggs with the corn to make sure they are eating them)
- Boiled eggs (chopped) without shell
- Jalapeno Peppers (usually mixed with veggies)
- Potato Bread toasted (thin layer of peanut butter)
- Raw Virginia Jumbo Peanuts (in moderation only - used as a treat)
- Diamond mixed nuts with shell (Walnut, Brazil Nuts, Almonds, Hazelnuts) (in moderation only - used as a treat)
- Primate Biscuits (we give these when babies first hatch out to help the parents with initial feedings) soaked in warm water and then given. We offer it once a day in the morning because we dont want the parents to feed only that because of nutritional content
- Fruits we feed:
- Apples
- Oranges
- Bananas
- Kiwi
- Grapes
- Watermelon
- Honeydew Melon
